Ask the Admin!

Sometimes you are stuck with an IT problem you just can't get your head around, be it the misbehaving router or a tricky question about your smartphone. If you work at a place where there are geeks and nerds, web admins, server admins and such piled in every corner: Lucky you! If not, there still is someone you can turn to - "AsktheAdmin.com" is the place to go.

The page itself describes it like this:

"Ask us the questions you can't ask your company Admin.
Karl L. Gechlik is a Microsoft Certified Admin and he will answer you!
Search our previous posts - We probably covered it already!
We can review your new technology, software, or service...Anything that
will improve our readers quality of technology - Email your questions to The Admin.
Free tech support for you and yours - With a touch of geeky humor."

I needed the admins help myself the other day, dropped him an email explaining the question and asking for ideas. The response was immidiate, the information provided was very helpful.

ninite.com helps you set up your very own and individual automated installer. Choose from a (quite well selected) list of essential freeware programs and download the resulting installer program. Run it, and it automatically installs your chosen programs. No stops for pressing "ok", just straight install of the programs, given they are not already installed, in which case the program detects it and updates it if neccessary. The link with which you can download the installer can be saved and used on any system. Its the easiest way to share your basic PC program configuration, or have it ready for when you have the task of setting up a new machine. It is brilliant! If you want, you can start with checking out or even automatically download and set up my selection of fine freeware.

Music out of the box: Pandora.com

Imagine the following: an experienced DJ sits down with you over his records. You name a song you like, he puts on a song he thinks you might also like. You listen, say if you like it or not, and, based on that, the DJ picks song after song closer, or in fact exactly to what you like. He even can tell you why he decided on a particular song. A brilliant service, www.pandora.com holds music for free, the best radio-ish webservice I experienced so far. I'm lazy right now and busy listening to this wonderful music, so please read here and try out here now. Just trust me, you won't regret it. If you wanna know what I listen to, check out the right side, below the "Feed Readers Digest " section. Edit: Pandora is closed for users outside the USA at the moment. I'll let you know when this sad time is over.

Reactable - for the DJ of the future

This is a very nice gadget, which could become an instrument of tomorrow - today! Just remember when one day you will tell your grandchild "Dj Reactable", where you first saw his turntables: evergreenlinks.blogspot.com :) " The reactable, is a multi-user electronic music instrument with a tabletop tangible user interface. Several simultaneous performers share complete control over the instrument by moving physical objects on a luminous table surface. By moving and relating these objects, representing components of a classic modular synthesizer, users can create complex and dynamic sonic topologies, with generators, filters and modulators, in a kind of tangible modular synthesizer or graspable flow-controlled programming language."
